Control board
The printed circuit board that reads sensors, drives outputs, and decides when to run or protect the system. It is also what generates the fault code you see, which means a code describes what the board detected rather than which part has failed.

The control board is the circuit board that reads the sensors, drives the outputs, and decides when the system runs or protects itself. Every fault code you see was generated by it.
Control board: how it works
Sensors feed the board a set of resistances and voltages, the board compares them against the limits its firmware holds, and it either drives the outputs or stops and posts a code. Because everything it knows arrives through a connector and a length of wire, a code identifies a measurement that fell outside range and not the component that caused it.

How to check it

- A code does not name a failed part. It names a condition the board detected, and the parts that could produce that condition are the shortlist.
- Replacing a board without checking the sensors and wiring can leave a new board reporting the same code.

Does a fault code tell me which part to replace?
No. It tells you what the board measured or failed to measure. A sensor fault code, for example, covers the sensor, its connector, the harness, and the board input equally until they are tested.
Can two units from one brand read the same code differently?
Yes. Code tables are written per product family rather than per brand, so the manual for the exact model is the only reliable definition. That is why the data plate comes before the code lookup.
Can I reset the board by cutting the power?
Cutting power clears a latched code on many systems, but if the condition that caused it is still present the code returns. Repeated resets on a protection code hide a fault rather than fixing it.
